Biodegradable Sunglasses

Made from plant-based materials

See the world through colors

Your sunglasses are there with you through some of life’s most beautiful moments. Whether you wear them on a wild travel excursion or while celebrating on a hot summer afternoon, use them to add some extra oomph to your outfit or simply to help get you from point A to B on a sunny day.

No matter where you take your sunglasses, they experience life with you, adding an extra filter to reality. We say it’s time to add some color to that filter.

Why? Because you’ve already seen things as they are.

Our motto has always been to color the world responsibly with sustainable and colorful essentials. But this time, we want to color the world you see, literally.

We’ve created our own line of high-end, bio-based, and biodegradable sunglasses in 15 styles and 24 radical colors, making the world you see a diverse and technicolored paradise.

Same colorful concept. New sustainable matertials.

Let’s talk frames and lenses! Introducing Mazzucchelli M49. This Rockstar cellulose acetate frame is fully plant-based, composed of materials like cotton seeds and wood fibers making it bio-based, 100% biodegradable, and fully compostable.

Combine that with CR39 lenses with UV400 protection, and you have a pair of protective, powerful, and high-end sunglasses.

PLANT-BASED & BIODEGRADABLE

That’s great, but what does it all mean?
Let’s break it down.

What does it mean if something is bio-based?

When a product is bio-based, it means that it comes from materials of natural and renewable origin, like cellulose acetate. Mazzucchelli for M49 comes from natural and renewable sources like wood, whose cultivation and harvest are managed according to the guidelines of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

What is cellulose acetate?

Cellulose acetate is natural polymer. The acetate used for our sunglasses is combined with acetic anhydride and plasticizers of vegetable origin, creating a natural and high-quality frame.

Biodegradable? So, they will slowly come apart?

Nope! According to the International Organization for Standardization, the term biodegradable is used to define any material that can be broken down by the enzymatic activity of microorganisms, sunlight and other environmental physical agents, into simple chemical compounds. In order to define a plastic material as biodegradable, the degree of biodegradation must reach 90% in an incubation time of no more than 6 months.

100% Recycled packaging

From a floating bottle in the sea, to a colorful sunglasses case.

Sustainability doesn’t stop at the product. Our colorful sunglasses are stored in felt cases made from the recycled polyster of plastic bottles retrieved from the ocean.

100% recycled FSC certified packaging

An oldie but a goodie! Just like the packaging for our organic cotton and merino wool garments, our sunglasses are packaged in 100% recycled FSC certified packaging.
